Over the next four years, the Bermondsey Project will deliver over 1,500 new rental homes to Bermondsey. Through construction and following delivery, hundreds of training and job opportunities will be created for local people, and new connections through the area alongside new public spaces will revitalise the neighbourhood as a thriving economic centre for Bermondsey and Southwark.
Investment on this scale combined with Greystar’s strong track record of delivering and managing build-to-rent development, and our commitment to active involvement with the local community, creates a catalyst for significant long-term social and economic benefits in the wider neighbourhood.
We are now pleased to share Greystar’s Local Legacy Strategy 2023.
Over the last year, Greystar has enjoyed getting to know a wide range of community groups and local representatives in Bermondsey. We appreciate those who have taken the time to meet with us and share what you believe are key priorities for social and economic growth and development in Bermondsey.
We have carefully considered your views and recommendations in the preparation of our updated Local Legacy Strategy for the Bermondsey Project. This Local Legacy Strategy acknowledges the significant work that the previous site owner, Grosvenor, did with the community, and seeks to demonstrate the progress Greystar has already made. This Strategy outlines the commitments that Greystar is making to ensure that the benefits delivered through the Bermondsey Project are felt widely across the community.
Taking into account priorities that we’ve heard from local community members alongside those identified by Southwark Council, the Local Legacy Strategy is underpinned by the following aims:
To reflect local priorities and ensure opportunities are maximised and wide-reaching, the Local Legacy Strategy 2023 focuses on four key themes:
The full Local Legacy Strategy includes details of the initial steps that we will be taking to deliver on our aims for the community, including work we have been progressing with the Blue Bermondsey BID, Big Local Works, local councillors and other members of the community. We have also explained how we will measure our success.
The Local Legacy Strategy can be viewed in the Archive section of this website or through the Southwark planning portal.
