Greystar is excited to share that we will soon be breaking ground on the Bermondsey Project site! In the coming weeks, we will begin infrastructure works that will lay the groundwork for wider construction.
In recent weeks you may have spotted new hoardings being put up around the Bermondsey Project site (formerly the Peak Freens Biscuit Factory). Throughout June you can expect to see the site becoming busier, with more workers on site and more lorries coming and going, as we prepare to start work.
The first work we’ll be doing involves laying new services, like power, water and telecommunications lines, throughout the site which is currently vacant. This work must take place before we start constructing new buildings on site.
From July onwards we will also begin work to prepare the remaining buildings which are yet to be demolished. We’ll start by putting up new hoardings around the site boundaries before we strip out the buildings and then start demolition. Demolition will begin with the building which is currently home to the Bermondsey Project Hub, at 37 Clements Road, and then will progress to buildings currently occupied by Compass School, when they move into their new building later in the summer.
We look forward to sharing further details of these construction works in the coming weeks. In the meanwhile, if you have any questions, please contact the Bermondsey Project team on info@greystar-bermondseyproject.com or 020 3900 3676, or register your details on the ‘Keep me updated’ page to receive regular project updates.
Greystar is thrilled to be breaking ground on this scheme which will bring significant benefits to the local Bermondsey and wider community alike.
As well as preparing to start these early infrastructure works, Greystar has been working hard to finalise designs for the Bermondsey Project. Since purchasing the site and assembling our expert team, Greystar has been closely reviewing the previously approved plans (2020), having identified some aspects of the plans that could be improved.
We are now bringing forward proposals to make some design improvements to the existing consent. Our minor changes will enhance the scheme for the benefit of Bermondsey residents. We will shortly be reaching out to local residents and businesses to seek your feedback on our proposed alterations, ahead of submitting these to Southwark Council.
Please keep an eye out for our newsletter or register your details on the ‘Keep me updated’ page of this website to receive future updates via email.
